In the old days, the only way a black guy growing up in Detroit, and a white kid in the Boston suburbs could share mutual experiences was through the "radio airwaves." Body and Soul is the story of those two kids and millions of others who had shared experiences lying in bed listening to the far away stations at night playing the kind of music that MOVED us... and had us anticipating the next pop song.  Prof

Source of inspiration:   In the old days, the only way a black guy growing up in Detroit, and a white kid in the Boston suburbs could share mutual experiences was through the "radio airwaves." Body and Soul is the story of those two kids and millions of others who had shared experiences lying in bed listening to the far away stations at night playing the kind of music that MOVED us... and had us anticipating the next pop song.

One by one tunes would blare out of the tiny headphone of a transister radio at night when you were supposed to be sleeping, not unlike now when the kids have a universal party line chat while IMing, watching a new video, listening to a recent download, and looking at the face of a kid in Bombay they just met a second ago.

Those songs meant so much to so many.  They were OURS!  And, we knew "every single word, as we sang them loud together" --  two kids, one white, one black, one urban, one suburban, of completely different backgrounds joined in a tapestry woven of jazz, blues, country, and gospel now titled  rock & roll.

Back then, the conversations would be peppered with WHEN we heard a certain song for the first time, not about the celebrity, or what they were doing.  It was about the song!

Meaning of the song:  "So many summers have come and gone" but look at us, just look at us........"when I heard that sound, my world turned upside down, didn't feel so all alone, inside of me, can't explain it, I'm on fire, I can't contain it, so out of control, body & soul"

ABOUT THE MUSIC

ANNOTATIONS

I remember waking up
sweet sound on the radio
raised in a small town
you know I didn't know
nothin' bout no miracles
way before temptations
I wait 'til the midnite hour
for an r&b station
and when I heard that sound
my whole world turned upside down
didn't feel so all alone
inside of me
I can't explain it
I'm on fire, I can't contain it
burnin' out of control
body and soul
you remember lying awake
Detroit dancin' in the middle of the night
street corner harmony
everybody singing
nobody talkin' bout the country blues
no white kid singin' bout his blue suede shoes
preacher preachin' bout brother ray
no devil music baby "what'd I say"
I heard that sound
my world turned upside down
didn't feel so all alone
inside of me, I can't explain it
I'm on fire I can't contain it
burnin' out of control
body and soul, will take you higher
than you've ever been lifted before
when you let it all out, beg scream and shout
there ain't any doubt about the music, body and soul
so many summer's have come and gone
each one had its favorite song
we knew every single word
sang 'em loud together
standing on a sandy beach
walk and talk along the Detroit streets
you're a thousand miles away
but we're together on the radio airwaves

ANNOTATIONS

Elapse time to write:  One carries some songs with him/herself every day.  Body and Soul is such a song.  The words came easily as did the melody.

Album it's on:  Black and White.  Bellevue Cadillac's first album.

Popularity / Requests:  Very popular, especially with people whose DNA aligns with the beat, orchestration, and lyrics.  It is constantly requested.

B/C Ranking:  One of our best tunes ever written and scored.  We use it as the lead-in tune for the Flash intro to our main website.
